Kent & Medway Progression Federation (KMPF) in collaboration with the University of Kent is excited to be launching a new initiative to support improvements in educational outcomes for boys.

The Kent and Medway Boys’ Impact Hub launches during a special event on Thursday, 24th April. Keynote speakers from across the sector will share their expertise, and attendees will have the opportunity to learn from the University of Kent’s Outreach and Widening Participation department’s flagship programme, ‘Championing Boys’  in order to gain first-hand insights into an evidence-based programme that tackles educational challenges for boys in Kent.

This event marks the first step in creating a Boys’ Impact Regional Hub—which will undertake strategic activity in research, pedagogy, policy and practice to support the outcomes of young men in their local educational, social, and geographic contexts. The Hub will serve as a platform for collective action, fostering partnerships between schools, colleges, universities, and third-sector organisations. By working together, stakeholders aim to reduce barriers to success and progression for boys in the region.

Gavin Delf, KMPF Hub Manager, said: “The launch is an excellent opportunity for learning practitioners to come together to explore boys’ experiences in education and how we can improve outcomes, particularly for boys from low socio-economic backgrounds. We know this is a national issue, but we have seen from the ‘Championing Boys’ project that targeted support can make a real difference. We must come together to share learning and best practices and to give this topic the attention it deserves.”

The launch takes place from 9.15 am to 2.30 pm at the Templeman Lecture Theatre at the University of Kent, Canterbury.

Representatives from schools, colleges, universities, and third-sector organisations are invited to attend the event. Spaces are free of charge but must be booked ahead of time on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reserve your place via https://bit.ly/BoysHub.

The booking deadline is Tuesday 8th April 2025.
