Colleagues from a wide range of organisations came together earlier this month for a special event focused on improving educational outcomes for children from armed forces families.
Hosted by the South East Service Children’s Progression Alliance Hub — led by the Kent and Medway Progression Federation (KMPF) — the event provided a valuable opportunity to collaborate, share best practice, and explore new ways to support this often-overlooked group of learners.
The programme featured a range of insightful presentations from partners working across education and the armed forces community. A highlight of the day was hearing directly from students at The Duke of York’s Royal Military School, who spoke candidly about their experiences of growing up in service families.
We’d like to thank all our speakers for their time and contributions, and everyone who attended for helping to create such a thoughtful and collaborative environment. Jayme Stevens and Dr Sarah O’Hara (Canterbury Christ Church University), Dr Anne Chappell and Dr Ellen McHugh (Brunel University of London) and Angela Maxted (South East SCiP Hub).
Thanks also to Andrew Malcolm (UK Ministry of Defence) and leaders from The Duke of York’s Royal Military School, Brompton Westbrook Primary School, and Guston CofE Primary School for discussing how schools can effectively support.
The Hub is committed to developing new initiatives and resources that help schools and colleges better support children from armed forces families.
