About the activity

The Sector Insight Online Mentoring programme provides an online mentoring opportunity to Year 11-13 Students as they explore their career interests. There will be four cohorts across the year focusing on:

Heath and Social Care (October)
Sport and General Sectors (January)
Engineering (April)
STEM (May)

The Sector Insight Online Mentoring programme provides an online mentoring opportunity to Year 11-13 Students as they explore their career interests. Using the safe, secure, and flexible text-based Brightside Mentoring App and Platform, students will spend 6-8 weeks exchanging messages with a working professional mentor of their choice. Their mentor will provide them with meaningful information, advice, and guidance through a reflective two-way conversation as they prepare to for their next steps in higher education and the world of work. Mentors will provide insight into their sector, drawing on their own experience and helping students to reflect on their aspirations and goals.

Each week, mentoring pairs will discuss tailored topics to help young people develop the specific knowledge and skills they need for success in their chosen sector.  All mentors are DBS checked at the enhanced level and trained in safeguarding and child protection.  Students will choose their own mentor from a range of available professionals. The Brightside Mentoring Platform is text-based. Students will never be required to take part in video calls or live chats; the programme is completely at their own pace. Students will be provided with a live or remote induction session to help them plan how to get the most out of their online mentoring experience.
